A part of a busy Westchester County road has reopened to traffic after a police cruiser was hit and knocked into scaffolding, injuring two officers.

Part of eastbound Prospect Street between Riverdale Avenue and South Broadway (Route 9) in Yonkers has reopened to traffic following a crash involving a police car, Yonkers Police announced on Friday, July 5.

According to Detective Sergeant Frank DiDomizio, at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 5, a patrol car from the department's 4th Precinct was traveling east on Prospect Street while responding to an emergency call when it was t-boned and struck on the driver's side by a vehicle traveling south on Riverdale Avenue.

The police car then spun and slid into scaffolding erected at the corner of Prospect Street and Riverdale Avenue, DiDomizio said, adding that the two officers inside suffered minor injuries.

The civilian car that struck the police car was occupied by three people who also suffered minor injuries.

The police car has since been removed from the scaffolding, which was secured by construction crews.

No charges were announced in connection to the crash.
